Food For Fine Policy

From December 1 to December 31 each year, Union County Public Library patrons may pay fines for overdue library materials by donating non-perishable food items, paper products, personal hygiene products, and cleaning products. Collection will take place only at the Union County Public Library in Liberty, Indiana, for the benefit of Union County’s local food banks. All donated items must not be damaged or expired.

Donations will be accepted only from Union County Public Library patrons, to pay fines for materials borrowed from the Union County Public Library only. Donated items shall be valued as follows:

  •  Non-perishable food items will be worth 50 cents each.
  •  Paper products, personal hygiene, and cleaning products will be worth $1 each.

This policy does not apply to fines incurred for materials borrowed by Union County Public Library patrons from other libraries in the Evergreen system, or to fines incurred for materials borrowed from the Union County Public Library by patrons of other libraries in the Evergreen system, or to fines or collection fees for Union County Public Library accounts that have been turned over to Unique Management.
